Publisher's Summary
This is the FoxTales version of the work previously released through Samhain Publishing. Other than the cover material, the book is the same.
Shattered by his lover Jason's suicide, archaeologist Dan Logan is struggling to patch his life together again. He's desperately following up Jason's final obsession, a secret buried deep within the military zone on Salisbury Plain. Anything is better than facing the void of his grief.
He's convinced he'll never love again. When unexpected help arrives in the form of a soldier named Summer Rayne, the last thing Dan could have predicted is the spark of attraction between them. And at first their relationship is fraught with so much conflict, their investigation into the circumstances of Jason's death looks more likely to cause one of their own.
But Rayne is smart, and very kind beneath his soldierly reserve. As the mystery of the Plain begins to vortex around them, dangerous secrets emerge, and Rayne and Dan have to work closely together to protect one another and the sanctity of Jason's memory. A wild new romance takes fire against all odds in the heat of a Salisbury summer, and the soldier and the archaeologist are only on the brink of the mystery of the legendary Salisbury Key.

Great characters
Story got bogged down with a whiney key character so I fast forward through those tedious bits. Overall a nice story

Rushed timeline but moving hurt / comfort romance!
Archeologist Dan Logan only has eyes for his mentor and lover, Jason, until the unimaginable happens. As Dan struggles to understand Jason’s death, he connects with a locally stationed soldier, Summer Rayne, who is also coming to terms with death and the two of them work to uncover the deadly secret that drove Jason to suicide. This melancholy romance sits squarely in hurt / comfort territory and Harper Fox’s writing is spot on about the highly emotional impact of losing a loved one and picking up the pieces. This wasn’t a dealbreaker but as is often the case with Harper’s plots, I found the compressed timeline too rushed to be believable - talk about a quick rebound and resolution! Apart from that I loved this, especially the always brilliant audio narration by the talented Hamish Long (currently free on the Audible Plus catalogue)!!

Slow Start but great story
At the start of listening to this Audio book I almost stopped listening. I just thought it's ok. Take it or leave it. BUT I am so glad I listened to the whole book. Absolutely loved the storyline and characters. The Salusbury Key really surprised me. Made me sad and triggered but in the end it was a great journey I was able to take with the characters. Thanks Harper Fox and your Narrator Hamish Fox. Loved the various British accents.

Heartbreakingly Beautiful
I absolutely loved this story.
It gave me joy and adventure, shattered my heart, and then brought all the pieces and more, back together.
Harper Fox has written the emotions in this story with such clarity that you could easily feel yourself a part of the narrative.
From the start, the characters had chemistry and there was an easy flow between them, time and space.
The background experiences of the characters combined with the unravelling journey has made this one of the most captivating books I have ever read.
Highly recommended! But be sure to have some tissues with you, and understand that there are triggering events and descriptions that really hit you.
I will read this story again one day, when my heart is able to cope with it again.

So slooooow
I really enjoy most of Josh Landon’s books so I was surprised when I took so long to get anywhere with this one.
I felt Dan was a whiny little boy, whining and moaning about his older partner and lying around , refusing to act like an adult.
I couldn’t imagine him as a talented teacher and archeologist.
Luckily, eventually he sort of pulled himself together and we got to the point of the story and I finished it, but there was great temptation to DNF it.
There is no doubt about the talent of the reader, but this will be the the one that got away for me.
