About this listen
Where did God come from? What do the bible stories really tell us? Who or what was Jesus Christ? This audiobook challenges everything we think we know about the nature of religion:
- The ancient fertility cult at the heart of Christianity.
- The living power of cultic rites and symbols.
- The sacred mushroom as the emblem and embodiment of divinity.
- The secret meaning of biblical myths.
- The language of religion that links us to our ancestors.
The Sacred Mushroom and the Cross sets out John Allegro's quest through a family tree of languages to find the truth about where Christianity came from.

good naration bad book
the book has an interesting premise, but ultimately ends up making the mushroom cult less likely than a literal interpretation of the bible. the ideas put forth lean on false premises like referring to 'original Aramaic' when all the oldest manuscripts are greek and historically understood to be greek.
worth looking into textual criticism, or james white has good resources on youtube.

The accuracy of detail!
Seems far more believable and balanced then any old or new testaments, as men in positions of power have altered the bible throughout time to suit their own needs and are not the true words of the ancient scriptures.

Just boring as hell. Derivation
Loose derivation of language to try and draw conclusions from 6000 years of language evolution. Just repetitive and so boring. Very disappointed
