About this listen
Darren has two big talents: cricket and trouble. It is no surprise, then, that he becomes an Australian sporting star of the bad-boy variety - one of those men who's always got away with things and just keeps going...until the day we meet him, middle aged and in the boot of a car, and everything pointing towards a shallow grave.
Gripping suspense from the Ned Kelly Award-winning author of Quota.

excellent
top shelf story that is beautifully written and read. Nostalgic, funny and above all else completely believable. Hugely enjoyable.

astounding
I was captured from the first chapter. the characters and story are totally addictive and the narrator got the voice just right. can't recommend enough, and I don't even like cricket.

The ending!
Just hated the ending! An awesome and gripping book, but shame about the ending. I felt like it ended too suddenly...

Didn’t think I’d enjoy this book. Wow was I wrong!
I grew up with a brother hogging the television to watch cricket and throughout my adult life have hated everything about the game. I even actively discouraged my boys from playing it for school sport just so that I wouldn’t have to endure the tedious hours watching them from the sidelines. What a surprise when I actually started reading The Rules of Backyard Cricket!!

A real page turner
Loved this book. Going into it didn’t know what to expect but one of the best books I have “read”? Had to drive around the block a few times as I didn’t want to stop listening

Believeable plot ...lots of twists and turns.
Characters were convincing and the recall of childhood cricket practice was golden!
Kept me going back for more!

Absolutely Brilliant, Searing and Original
You haven't read a story like this before, I guarantee it. I really didn't know what I was in for, but it hooked me instantly and I was riveted by the entire story. This is highly original, deeply fascinating and I am confident I will enjoy several re-listens to this one.
I'd almost recommend you don't read anything much about it - just read it. It's a gripping, brutal thriller entwined in the story of two brothers, with sprinklings of deeply sentimental imagery. Love, love, loved it.

Ripping tale!
Enjoyed the story and the writing was emotive and evocative. By far the best narration of any audible book so far. loved Rupert Degas' narration. Just fabulous!

Amazing storyline, twists and characters!
I thought this was autobiographical but as far as I could find online, it is not. Initially bought this book as I like suspense novels and cricket, and it was a daily special for about $4. Having said that, I would recommend buying it for full price anyway as it does not disappoint!
