About this listen

If there's one thing most people can agree on, it's that there should be rules for life.

And they're right. We should have a set of rules that we can all agree on, that show us how to experience happier, more authentic lives. A set of rules that cuts through the crap of everyday life to expose what it is we can all agree is true, even if it isn't always what we want to hear.

This is why I assembled The Rule Book, a book about the truths of life - everything I could fit into 36 essays. The glass is half-empty and half-full. Isolation is illusion. There are no "backsies". Some days are just gonna suck. Everything - that's right - everything is a blessing. And that's just the beginning.

I spent three years writing The Rule Book, finding a new rule each month. As each essay ran in Recovering the Self (www.recoveringself.com), I readied myself for what rule life would reveal (or just slap me over the head with) next month.

There are rules for life. They're all around us if we take the time to look.
