About this listen
Three trials. Three weeks. Three Royal Princes.
It should have been an easy task for a skilled mercenary like Rybet Waise. Simply break into the royal palace, and rescue her friend from the executioner’s block. But when Rybet accidentally qualifies for the Trials, she finds herself with little choice but to see them through.
A thin veil of etiquette, elegance, and glamour hides the true nature of the Trials. Behind closed doors, they are brutal and bloody, and to fail means to forfeit her life.
Thrust into the limelight and forced to compete with the Kingdom’s elite sweethearts, unlikely allies emerge and bonds are formed. But someone will stop at nothing to see her fail. After all, she’s nothing but a dirty pond-dweller.
Rybet will do whatever it takes to survive until the Golden Ball, princes be damned.

AMAZING
I have been wanting to listen to (or even just read) this book for ages and I finally decided to, even with the extra I had to pay for because of the book not being part of KU but it was honestly worth it. As a reader, there are definitely things you will notice that the female protagonist will not, and it will really frustrate you that she can't see it but it doesn't really affect my overall rating of this book. The narration was fabulous with a duet and just overall amazing voices that really bring the characters to life more. Bridie Lawrence has been in another of Tate James's books that I loved and this was just as good. Jarred Kjack is also a narrator who I had listened to in the past and loved, he seems to be in mostly duet narrations as well which is one of my favourite styles of narration. This is definitely a story I would recommend if anyone thinks they will like it. I hope if you do decide to read/listen to it then you will find that you love it just as much as I do. Enjoy!

Please re-record
The male voice actor is meant to be 3 young princes. He sounds like their grandfather. He is clearly a skilled actor but his voice is too old for this role. I just can’t get into the story.

Royal Trials arrayed on Audio by Charles and Camilla. Just awful. Do not listen on audio.
Listened to this on audio and what a massive let down I wish I’d just read it instead. I can’t get the awful voices out of my head. Fake twee British accents with an Australian lilt sounded like Prince Charles and Camilla. It was so unauthentic and certainly not sexy. Not a hint of sexual tension came through at all. I’m going to try the next book on kindle unlimited. I don’t feel I can give a fair review of the co tent having listened to the audiobook. The content seems pretty ridiculous and lacking any real tension or action. A little bit of basic girl v girl bitching. Very boring and traditional and some pathetic trials. I’m not sure I just wasted 7 hours I’ll never get back. But As I said. I’ll read the next book just to be fair to Tate but strongly suggest the narrators get a new job.
