terrible naration completely monotone

I was so excited to listen to this book after it was recomended to me. I am a creole and my family comes from Louisiana. I have heard a million times "my gumbo is the best. my secret is in the roux"
so when i started listening to the book. I struggled listening to the narrater who spoke in a complete monotone and barely took a breath between sentences. I listened for perhaps 20minutes but it didnt change.
WHY WHY WHY? How hard was it to get a professional narrater to read this book? Im shocked at just how much the narrater spoiled the book. If it is possible to get a do over the publisher should totally try another narrater. Theres heaps of out of work actors trying to get work. PLEASE! from what I did listen to the book would have been great. I would have been put to sleep though if I listened much longer. I usually listen for hours while I cook, sew, do housework, relax in the sun and drive. So I've always got a book on the go.
This was a sad result. Im shocked the publisher listened to a sample then agreed to go forward. Unbelievable!
