1940, Bletchley Park, Buckinghamshire.
Three very different women are recruited to the mysterious Bletchley Park, where the best minds in Britain train to break German military codes.
Vivacious debutante Osla has the dashing Prince Philip of Greece sending her roses – but she burns to prove herself as more than a society girl, working to translate decoded enemy secrets. Self-made Mab masters the legendary codebreaking machines as she conceals old wounds and the poverty of her East-End London upbringing. And shy local girl Beth is the outsider who trains as one of the Park’s few female cryptanalysts.
1947, London.
Seven years after they first meet, on the eve of the royal wedding between Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip, disaster threatens. Osla, Mab and Beth are estranged, their friendship torn apart by secrets and betrayal. Yet now they must race against the clock to crack one final code together, before it’s too late, for them and for their country.

"It’s epic in every way, brilliantly researched, beautifully written and completely unputdownable. Everyone needs it on their list for 2021." (Jenny Ashcroft)
"An intricate play of love, loss, betrayal and redemption, Kate Quinn’s novel is every bit as complex and fascinating as the codes being broken at Bletchley Park.... Impossibly gripping from start to finish, The Rose Code is a cracking good read!" (Celia Rees)
"Immersive, thrilling and packed with wonderful characters - some fictional, others real. I absolutely loved every page of this incredible, meticulously researched book." (Jill Mansell)

Loved it
This is the third Kate Quinn book I’ve listened to - all three narrated by Saskia Maarleveld. I loved this book. I loved all the women and felt bereft when it ended. Just one tiny niggle. The narrator is fabulous and great at accents but I’m puzzled as to why the character of Beth and her family were given a slight northern accent as they were from Bucks. Also the constant mispronunciation of both Coventry and Keswick drove me crazy. People in the street probably heard me yell ‘COventry’ and ‘Kezick’ every time they were mispronounced. Nevertheless it didn’t detract from a really great story with cracking characters. Can’t wait for the next one.

The readers’s voices
I liked all of it! It’s a great read! Her best book, I think. It combinines great writing with varied fascinating characters, a mystery with countless twists and turns, and English WW2 History. What’s not to love?!

Historical perspectives of women
Loved the history of women who played a pivotal role in WW2 but were never acknowledged in history

A good story
The Rose Code
A story of true friendship amidst Bletchley Park and the decoding boffins’ war time work and play.
The problem with having an American narrator use an English accent is that they *OBVIOUSLY* mispronounce words, that an otherwise British narrator wouldn’t. Eg/ Maurice is pronounced “Morris”
(not More-Reece); Clerk is pronounced “Clark”;
Worcester; Keswick; Coventry; etc
There are only a few, but they are jarring, and take you out of the story for a sentence or two. Why not just have a British narrator???

Good story
I don't normal like books set in war times. Enjoyed the book. Good story line and kept you hooked. Lots of other things going on.
