About this listen
A big storm is brewing, there's a killer on the loose, and the ghosts of Myrtle Beach are restless. Psychic medium Simon Kincaide and his sexy cop boyfriend, homicide detective Vic D'Amato, have their hands full helping the Grand Strand brace for rough surf, driving rain, and high winds as a winter storm roars toward shore.
Everyone's on edge, and rumors are rampant about sightings of Blackcoat Benny, a ghostly omen of danger, and worse, the Gallows Nine, the spirits of nine infamous criminals hanged back in the 1700s, a harbinger of disaster. Rough tides wash the wreck of an old pirate ship into shallow waters, high winds threaten to damage an old mansion with a dark past, and the citizens of the beach town hunker down to ride out the storm.
As the skies grow dark and the sea turns wild, several men from prominent local families end up dead under suspicious circumstances. Simon's premonition confirms Vic's gut feeling - the killing is just getting started. As Simon tries to reach out to the spirits of the murdered men to help the investigation, he's attacked by malicious ghosts that don't want anyone getting in the way of their long-overdue vengeance.

Another great story
This was another great story, I love the mix of folklore, history, mystery & magic the author weaves together to tell this story. The characters are all strong in their own right and contribute well to the story line.
As usual Kale’s smooth narration draws you through the story and it’s the end before you know it.

Another great edition to the series
This author and narrator duo are great. I would recommend any work by them. For context I also love kj Charles and Alice winters. Adding Brice to this hallowed company

Entertaining ghostly mystery / romantic-suspense!
Medium Simon Kincaide has his hands full with some destructive pirate ghosts as a large storm bears down on Myrtle Beach. Meanwhile his partner Detective Vic D’Amato investigates a series of supernatural-related suicides. This historically focussed mystery is the second full novel in the Badlands series and it all works, there’s some juicy storylines and plenty of ghostly action. Simon and Vic are still settling into their relationship and complement each other’s strengths. Kale Williams gives a good audio performance, although I find some of his accents come and go and I have trouble distinguishing between characters at times (audiobook is currently free on the Audible Plus catalogue).
