A really good story - so different!

A great, suspension filled book., linking various places of political unrest in the world, researched and written most professionally.
A pity the reader did not do as much research on her French pronunciation!! so many REALLY annoying mispronunciations rattled off so frequently!😱

Enthralling

I really enjoyed this book - great storyline and engaging characters. The narrator's pronunciation of Marseilles drove me bananas though - it's pronounced "maa-say" not "maa-sigh". It's not the same as Versailles - different spelling, different pronunciation. Other than that, she was great and I loved the book.

An Average Thriller

This novel demonstrates how deep one wealthy man's twisted machinations almost wreak the ultimate retribution against his opposition that results in the abduction and near death of a child. It could be seen as part of the constant tussle between good and evil.

Overall, although not unique, the story has a good strong premise. It is well thought out, expertly researched with considerable detail. Investigation taking up much of the story with some action towards the end. There is a touch of romance with redemption - personal growth. However, I thought that the start was a little slow. I appreciate a thriller whereby that adrenalin excitement commences in the first chapter. Our heroine's conduct is both compassionate and virtuous. The villain's motives are both wicked (death) and compassionate. Yes, some may have a self serving aspect. But, one has an apparent selfless motive (rescue of a fallen cyclist). That lack of total distinction left me a little disconcerted - I couldn't get fully behind either character. I didn't find that the story had any potent cliffhangers. I thought that the cliffhangers were just okay. I liked that each character gave their own position as to the story's circumstances and events. This tended to draw me in and allowed me to connect with the story's characters.

The narration is well performed considering the employment of a single narrator. Individual character vocals are consistent, well defined and convincing - perhaps, less so with the male characters. Overall, a professional performance.

I missed that adrenalin fuelled anticipation and thrill that I associate with thriller novels . I don't know if this listen would sustain my attention without the aid of outside distractions (household chores).
