One of the best-known and most beloved historical novelists, Georgette Heyer, as ever, captures a whole new audience's heart.

Stepping into the wrong carriage at a Sussex village, Elinor Rochdale is swept up in a thrilling and dangerous adventure. Overnight the would-be governess becomes mistress of a ruined estate and partner in a secret conspiracy to save a family's name. By midnight, she is a bride, by dawn, a widow.

A typically thrilling and sweeping tale of romance and tragedy, The Reluctant Widow is Georgette Heyer at her best - the undisputed queen of historical romance.

A bit of a who-done-it

There is a strong spy catcher element to this story of intrigue. The storyline leads to a surprising conclusion and allows good character development. Damon Broni gives a lively reading with good characterisation although he is hampered by some of the dialogue which is a bit long winded at times. I enjoyed the dramatization and the plot which is rich in period detail.

Too much dog and teen

More of a whoddunnit. Repetitive dialogue. Frankly, annoying teenage boy and dog get too much coverage.

Fabulous story but the narrator was terrible

Disappointing narration. It really ruins what is a fabulous story. The previous narrator was far better!

Not well read

A pity that such a wonderful story was not better read or produced. There were a number of reading and pronunciation errors that should have been corrected. Not impressed.
