Narration kills the story

I really. Struggled. Listening to. This book. Because of. The staccato. Narration. That made all the. Characters seem. Really annoying. I bought it for a 9-hour drive and spent most of the drive feeling angry with everyone. I'm honestly still not sure if it's a good story or not.
