Publisher's Summary

One song for the dying... sung by the dead....

When the body of a young woman is discovered at the home she shared with her disabled daughter, DI Tom Janssen and his team must investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.

The woman was a single mother, well regarded, and popular among the group she frequented, but she had a checkered past...a life she kept secret from those around her...a life that may, ultimately, have led to her death. Friends, past lovers, and confidants offer conflicting descriptions of the deceased...did anyone know her at all?

The team realize the daughter is missing and, away from her medication, the little girl's life hangs in the balance. Unless the team can solve a seemingly calculated murder, an innocent life will be lost....

Set within the mysterious beauty of coastal Norfolk, this fast-paced British detective novel is a dark murder mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end when the final shocking twist is revealed.

The Raven Song is the latest novel in the Hidden Norfolk series of thrillers from the million-copy best-selling British crime writer, JM Dalgliesh, the author of the Dark Yorkshire books. Perfect for fans of LJ Ross, JD Kirk, Angela Marsons, Simon McCleave, and Damien Boyd.

I'll listen to the whole series but...

I have hesitated to go against popular opinion but...Tom's character to me is quite wooden, and I'm disappointed that the initial attraction to Tamara led to nothing. It felt to me at the time he was sort of pushed into giving up his life on the boat to become more responsible; he was confused when his ex wife turned up of course, then there was the expectation of Alice to always be there particularly as a child minder for Saffy. The character of Saffy annoys me at times...I think I must've forgotten how demanding they are 😅 but if my child refused to go to bed until a parent came home, well that wouldnt happen...how about saying no??? Then there's Tamara's mum turning up and expecting her to change her life...the cats and the dating website for example 😒 Do older parents need to be portrayed as rude needy people who expect their children to accommodate their decisions just because they ARE the parents? I'm all for compassion and understanding but it's all so cliche 🙄

So sad

I found this book to be incredibly sad on just so many levels. Societal, Prejudgementally, and basic human nature. It was just so, so sad!

Okay

Not sure what happened to the narrator in the first 15 minutes of the book. He sounds like he had a cold. Story was an ok listen, it was a bit obvious after the first 6 or 7 chapters whodunnit.

Not really a mystery

The DI Jansen series is getting progressively more dull. It’s not badly written but if you are expecting the central characters to do their jobs then you will be disappointed. This series, more than the other two I have listened to, feels more judgmental and trite. Flat.
