Publisher's Summary
Mark Randall lay dead in a field near Lowacre long before Smith had done what he had to do in Belfast. By the time he went back to work, the investigation was well underway. "It's not my case," he says more than once, and he really doesn't need it to be; he has enough to think about as it is. But going around the Norfolk countryside dotting the i's and crossing the t's, speaking to the local farmers and the Brothers of St. Francis from Abbeyfields, Smith begins to suspect that the investigation might be heading in entirely the wrong direction. Arrests are made, charges are brought, and Christopher Waters asks Smith if he has ever seen the wrong man convicted in a murder case. The answer is yes, and the next question is, what can be done to prevent it from happening again?

I’m officially addicted to this wordsmith
Yet another beautifully written & perfectly narrated work. The reasonably predictable outcome can be excused simply by the exquisitely insightful look into DC’s character.

DCI Smith perfectly performed by Gildart Jackson
I’m in a panic now nearing the conclusion to this terrific series and thinking certainly no equal could be found to fill the void.

Ripping yarn
The dc smith novels just keep getting better - Grainger has a beautiful light touch and every one, even villains, is human. Recommend +++
(Narration is flawless)

Another great listen
I love how Robert Grainger's writing includes such subtle and dry humour. Makes me laugh out loud. And the narrator does a superb job with all the characters. I love the discord between Smith and the other detective seargents, and how he always comes out on top.

One of a great series
If you enjoy an English detective series with intellect, wit and amazing humour, this is a great series to read. It is best to read about Detective DC Smith and his team in sequence though as past events impact on the character development in each of the books.

Well narrated
What a good read. Very compelling detective story. Make sure you read them in sequence. The narrator is one of the best out there giving a wonderful voice to the characters.
