About this listen

True stories of life and death from a New Zealand pathologist

From the number one best-selling author of The Cause of Death comes an audiobook about the unlikely, extraordinary, obscure and often tragic ways humans meet their end.

A dead body without a trace of trauma; alien parasites; worms of the brain; crocodile attacks and bizarre eating disorders....In The Quick and the Dead, pathologist and self-confessed death-aficionado Dr. Cynric Temple-Camp takes listeners into a world of disease and death as he seeks answers for those who were unlucky, and those still alive to tell the tale.

Very interesting

Really enjoyed this audiobook, having read the author's other book. Very interesting stories from the author's experiences in Africa and New Zealand. My only complaint is the narrator's mangled pronunciation of New Zealand place names and te reo Māori (the narrator is not the author) - a little bit of research or checking out the correct pronunciation would've helped. Despite this, it's a great book and I definitely recommend it.

An amazing story.

Having gone to Africa to nurse I was particularly caught up in the story of the fight with the croc. Sadly a friend was lost to a croc
reminding me just how serious being in their territory is.
Your account of the different ways of caring for folk who have died was also fascinating. I was able to care for my dad when he died having experienced alternative ways of caring for family when they die.
What an amazing account. Thank you so much for taking the time to put pen to paper.

Did not like the narrators extremely bad promounciation of place names and voices for different people. Very distracting and annoying.

So interesting. The author has some terrific stories. Thought the narration was perfect too. Didn’t want it to end!

Good story lines

If you are going to name and quote people you should do so accurately, there is a person in this book I knew personally and what was attributed to them saying would never happen. Also the pronunciation of many of place names was terrible. The stories themselves were really interesting though.
