About this listen
The Silver Fleece, cotton, could be the answer to Zora and Bles' prayers in overcoming poverty. While attending Miss Smith's School in rural Alabama, they lovingly nurture their crop. But, the white aristocracy is determined to control the price of cotton and monopolize the market. Can two young lovers prevail despite the daunting obstacles laid before them?

Taking on a text from W. E. B. Du Bois is not the easiest assignment. Du Bois has done as much for the advancement of civil rights and society at large as just about anyone in modern history, and his written works are infused with the same passion and intelligence. Thankfully, veteran narrator Peter Jay Fernandez, is on hand to give Du Bois's The Quest of the Silver Fleece the smooth and engaging performance it deserves. The Quest of the Silver Fleece is the moving story of romance and race, as two youths come together and face the cruel reality of the race relations of the time.
