About this listen
Narrated by Audiofile Golden Voice, Rupert Degas
In October 1863, Ian Steele, having taken on the identity of Captain Samuel Forbes, is fighting the Pashtun on the north-west frontier in India. Half a world away, the real Samuel Forbes is a lieutenant in the 3rd New York Volunteers and is facing the Confederates at the Battle of Mission Ridge in Tennessee. Neither is aware their lives will change beyond recognition in the year to come.
In London, Ella, the love of Ian's life, is unhappily married to Count Nikolai Kasatkin. As their relationship sours further, she tries to reclaim the son she and Ian share, but Nikolai makes a move that sees the boy sent far from Ella's reach.
As 1864 dawns, Ian is posted to the battlefields of the Waikato in New Zealand, where he comes face to face with an old nemesis. As the ten-year agreement between Steele and Forbes nears its end, their foe is desperate to catch them out and cruel all their hopes for the future...

Absolutely magnificent
Peter Watt seems to heading his way to be my favourite author. Every time I think the book I finished cannot be bettered, I am happily proven wrong as I close the next follower book on the series.

Another Great Book from Peter Watt !
If you love Peter Watt's books this one will not disappoint you! I did feel that the narrator put a bit too much emphasis on his words from time to time but that is just a personal point if view. No doubt others will appreciate it.

Wonderful story with great historic value
Another terrific instalment in the colonial series. So many twists and turns and a big surprise that Mr. Steel’s life would intersect with the Duffy family from the frontier series. Thanks Peter Watt.

Great Read
All three books in this series are an enjoyable read, the plot gets a little unbelievable at times, but still a great read highly recommend

Don’t change reader half way thru a series
Very disappointed to see hear the reader change part way thru the series.
Also, it does recap previous books to much.
Love the story however!
