About this listen

The breathtaking debut from acclaimed short story writer Derek Kunsken

Belisarius is a quantum man, an engineered Homo quantus who fled the powerful insight of dangerously addictive quantum senses. He found a precarious balance as a con man, but when a client offers him untold wealth to move a squadron of warships across an enemy wormhole, he must embrace his birthright to even try. In fact, the job is so big that he'll need a crew built from all the new sub-branches of humanity. If he succeeds, he might trigger an interstellar war, but success might also point the way to the next step of Homo quantus evolution.

Outstanding story

Although everyone has different levels of patience for techno jargon and complex storyline’s this is a very enjoyable book.
Once I absorbed all the characters and their interactions I wasn’t able to put this down. There were a few moments of relistening parts to clarify but overall I enjoyed it.

Another good book ruined by a terrible narration

I’m planning to buy the hard copy. I can’t stand the narrator’s lip-smacking between paragraphs; the voice sounds old, with a touch of loose dentures. The accents completely pull you out of the story.
Gave up after chapter 7 .

Great narration

Despite some reviews to the contrary, the audio narration on this book is excellent. Well paced with great accent changes for the numerous lead characters.

Great world and character building out there concepts, great performance

Every moment entertaining, very creative sci fi tale with likeable characters following a heist story structure, think faracape crew, cyberpunk themes, space opera.

A SF gem

A space opera that explores what it is to be human against a back drop of a classic Sting. All the characters bring something new to the story and are brilliantly performed by T. Ryder Smith. This is a book you’ll want to tell people about.

Awful, awful narration.

So tired of all the review padding on Audible. The narrator was awful, he absolutely phoned it in.
