"This is a terrific novel, dark, powerful and beautifully written. I finished it a while ago, but I'm still haunted by the characters and the place." (Ann Cleeves, best-selling author of the Shetland and Vera crime series)

Excellent listen

Got this book after reading that Liam Mcilvaney came from Glasgow but now resides in the same NZ city as myself. A bit gruesome at times but a well developed story with twists and for myself a lot of nostalgic memories of my birth city.

Glasgow real and raw

This took me a little while to get into but once the story unfolded I couldn't help but want to keep going. It's well written and narrated with a genuine Glasgow relevance. The author clearly knows his stuff!

Brilliant.

The Quaker is one of those books that make you want to reassess all the reviews you've ever submitted, and knock a few stars off every one of them. Liam Mcilvanney is a truly gifted writer, original and imaginative well beyond the level of most crime fiction writers. I was hooked from page one. He doesn't rely on unnecessary gore or (god forbid) budding romance/sexual tension to pad out his story. Just a gripping tale with relatable characters delivering believable dialogue, mixed with a palpable sense of 60s Glasgow.

Angus King's narration is perfect.

Slow to start

It took a wee while to get into the story. Not a bad story and will look for a second book. As usual always enjoy Angus King as Narrator.
