About this listen

Brian Staveley's The Providence of Fire, the second novel in the Chronicle of the Unhewn Throne, a gripping new epic fantasy series in the tradition of Brandon Sanderson and George R. R. Martin.

The conspiracy to destroy the ruling family of the Annurian Empire is far from over.

Having learned the identity of her father's assassin, Adare flees the Dawn Palace in search of allies to challenge the coup against her family. Few trust her, but when she is believed to be touched by Intarra, patron goddess of the empire, the people rally to help her retake the capital city. As armies prepare to clash, the threat of invasion from barbarian hordes compels the rival forces to unite against their common enemy.

Unknown to Adare, her brother Valyn, renegade member of the empire's most elite fighting force, has allied with the invading nomads. The terrible choices each of them has made may make war between them inevitable.

Between Valyn and Adare is their brother Kaden, rightful heir to the Unhewn Throne, who has infiltrated the Annurian capital with the help of two strange companions. The knowledge they possess of the secret history that shapes these events could save Annur or destroy it.

Great book

Love this trilogy. It’s a refreshing new fantasy world with compelling plot and characters. More swearing than I’m used to and a bit brutal in parts but for that reason I think it is more realistic. I have no idea what’s coming in the third book but I can’t wait to find out!

Develops and enriches the world and characters introduced in the first story. Excellent narration and lots of twists and revelations.

Things are unravelling

This book moves from the monastery and the Kettral islands of the first book to open the world a bit. fast-paced and with lots of twists and turns as our characters try and unravel the mystery set before them. There are 3 main POV's and another, that of Gwenna. Good character. Good effort - on to book 3

Great book with an excellent reader.

Be warned the author likes to leave this series on cliff hangers. You will have to read the next one straight away!

Just wish lathe would shut up/die

Really enjoying the book so far. But god did he have to make that lathe guy such a whiny twit? He’s meant to be an elite soldier but just spends all his time complaining.
