Publisher's Summary
It has been 16 years since the Day of Reckoning, when magic and witchcraft were outlawed throughout all of Eileanan. And though rumors say that she is dead, the Arch-Sorceress Meghan of the Beasts still lives. Traveling with her are the true heir to the throne and the red-haired warrior Iseult. Their fates are woven together in a quest to bring magic back to the land.
As Eileanan nears its darkest hour, Meghan must gather rebel forces to move upon the city of Lucescere. There, the Rìgh lies near death, and his Queen, Maya the Ensorcellor, and her babe stand to inherit his power. To end Maya’s brutal reign and bring magic out of the shadows, what was broken must be brought together: twin sisters who have never met, three parts of an enchanted key, and the winged man with the powers of the lost Lodestar.

loved it!
not only a great story but beautifully read, the only downside is my internal dialogue now has a Scottish brogue

Beautiful storytelling
I loved the narrator which made the story so real. I had to listen at 0.8 speed though to understand each and every word, but I truly didn't mind that it took that much longer. In fact, preferred it.
I love the characters, even in their flaws. That's what I love about this book, is that each character have their weaknesses and character arcs. They learn from each other and change and it's just beautiful. The ending for book two is bittersweet somehow, even though technically it is a happy ending. The main character, Isabeau, is still so young so I really look forward to discovering the rest of her story.
Meghan's little side "adventure" made me laugh! Made me love her so much and she was that more endearing because of it. And she is such a powerful character, but again, flaws made her character all the more interesting.
And the world building is just beautiful. I need more fan art!
There is romance, but it doesn't appear to be the main theme of the book. Hoping for more romance in following books (because I am a hopeless romantic), but I will be satisfied if there isn't because I trust the author knows how to keep me enthralled!

Every book gets better...
I love how Kate Forsyth doesn't drag out plots and stories, but instead keeps both the listener and her characters on their toes, while feeding one enough clues to wonder where we will be lead next. She continues to enrich and challenge her characters...

I love these books
Occasionally it's difficult understanding accent/language but I have really enjoyed these first 2 books of this series. I especially love that there is no inappropriate content, I hope that continues, unlike other series I have read. There are many enjoyable characters with their individual complexities, the story is intriguing and well paced, and plenty of magical moments

good themes
Good flow from book one and action-packed - still keeping pace wanting to know what will happen. Love the compassion for nature and animals often highlighted in fantasy and like the Scot narrator

Light and fluffy
Fairytale style, targeted at kids and young adults.
Really slow on some parts, could do with some heavy editing. A few major plot flaws and inconsistencies.
I loved the Scottish accent of the narrator and the use of Scottish vocabulary.
A great book for falling asleep to!
