About this listen
This brilliant new audiobook explores the lives of eight generations of the greatest kings and queens that this country has ever seen, and the worst. The Plantagenets – their story is the story of Britain.
England’s greatest royal dynasty, the Plantagenets, ruled over England through eight generations of kings. Their remarkable reign saw England emerge from the Dark Ages to become a highly organised kingdom that spanned a vast expanse of Europe. Plantagenet rule saw the establishment of laws and creation of artworks, monuments and tombs which survive to this day, and continue to speak of their sophistication, brutality and secrets.
Dan Jones brings you a new vision of this battle-scarred history. From the Crusades, to King John’s humbling over Magna Carta and the tragic reign of the last Plantagenet, Richard II – this is a blow-by-blow account of England’s most thrilling age.

Brilliant Enlightment
I had heard of the White Ship, I remembered being fascinated by the late 70s TV drama 'The Devil's Crown' (on the back of which my daughter's names include Eleanor), I loved The Daughter of Time and knew of the York and Tudor struggles called The Wars of the Roses. However, the wealth of information provided by the author in this book, closely followed by listening to the next instalment in the saga, The Hollow Crown, have broadened my knowledge immensely, and spectacularly brought the players and the period to life. Dan Jones' research and scholarship, complemented by his skills in narrating his works have made listening a delight. I will now start over!

Rollicking English history
Well researched, well written and well read. Dan Jones finds the balance between historical accuracy and juicy melodrama in this history of the Plantagenet dynasty. Would highly recommend to anyone.

The planet of the Kings!
Having the story of history written and narrated by the same person adds so much to the insight and understanding of this work. Dan Jones loves his research and imparts that love on to his audience. An exciting, in depth, informative experience. If you love history, especially the history of England you will love this work. Clearly read at a good pace with obvious research skills making it a great work!
Well worth the money and the listening.

Brilliant
The content and narrative were excellent. I love medieval history. Born in North Wales, castles were a part of your landscape and history. This book brings them to life and the cruel suppression of the Welsh and our native language.
I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in this era and/or the Plantagenets.

Brilliant
The perfect balance of detail and anecdotes to bring alive the history of the Plantagenets while answering questions of how events fitted together, discounting some myths and clarifying others, leaving you with a more coherent understanding of the period
