Publisher's Summary
'Yeah, but he broke mine first.'
When Rosie Gennaro first meets Jimmy Hailler, she has walked away from life in Sydney, leaving behind the place on Dalhousie that her father, Seb, painstakingly rebuilt for his family but never saw completed. Two years later, Rosie returns to the house and living there is Martha, whom Seb Gennaro married less than a year after the death of Rosie's mother. Martha is struggling to fulfil Seb's dream, while Rosie is coming to terms with new responsibilities. And so begins a stand-off between two women who refuse to move out of the home they both lay claim to.
As the battle lines are drawn, Jimmy Hailler re-enters Rosie's life. Having always watched other families from the perimeters, he's now grappling, heartbreakingly, with forming one of his own . . .
An unforgettable story about losing love and finding love; about the interconnectedness of lives and the true nature of belonging, from one of our most acclaimed writers.

Love the story, read too fast!
Was such a great story but the quickness it was read took away from the emotions. Would have been a lot better if read a tad slower.

Sweet
one thing that can easily improve, leave a gap between one scene and another. There was no hai in the narration when caracteres and situation changed, and sometime it was confusing and took a while to catch up with what was going on.
The story was sweet, heart warming, and we'll paced.

True Blue Aussie Tale
I grew up in the suburbs from this book and left in my 20's, brought back memories. Great descriptions, characters, felt their pain frustration. really enjoyed this one.

Friends and family are everything
I loved listening to this story of people who are searching: for family, for their identity, for a way out of their grief. Rosie is infuriatingly stubborn yet so lovable- just like Martha. The first couple of sentences definitely hooked me and I was sold on Rosie just as I was all those years ago with Josephine Alibrandi!

disappointed
I love Melina Marchetta books. She is a fantastic writer so i was really looking forward to listening to this book. Unfortunately it wasn't as good as all her other books. I found I didn't really care about the characters they were hard to love at times and there was so much back story to the characters that it got confusing to what story went with who. hopefully the next book is better.

Melina does it again!
Practically binge listened. Loved the way out of tragedy and hardship comes something worthwhile. Heart warming.
