Publisher's Summary

Five years after this sleeper hit took on the world of IT and flipped it on its head, the fifth anniversary edition of The Phoenix Project continues to guide IT in the DevOps revolution. In this newly updated and expanded edition of the best-selling The Phoenix Project, co-author Gene Kim includes a new afterword and a deeper delve into the Three Ways as described in The DevOps Handbook.

Bill, an IT manager at Parts Unlimited, has been tasked with taking on a project critical to the future of the business, code named Phoenix Project. But the project is massively over budget and behind schedule. The CEO demands Bill must fix the mess in 90 days, or else Bill’s entire department will be outsourced.

With the help of a prospective board member and his mysterious philosophy of the Three Ways, Bill starts to see that IT work has more in common with manufacturing plant work than he ever imagined. With the clock ticking, Bill must organize work flow, streamline interdepartmental communications, and effectively serve the other business functions at Parts Unlimited.

In a fast-paced and entertaining style, three luminaries of the DevOps movement deliver a story that anyone who works in IT will recognize. Listeners will not only learn how to improve their own IT organizations, they’ll never view IT the same.

It's worth listening to twice!

The story is surprisingly engaging for the subject. It fuses relatable characters and an interesting plot with solid advice for Dev ops.

Instantly recognisable story that teaches lots

The book starts by describing my work life; anyone’s work life in tech. The story takes the listener on a journey through enormous challenges, guided by a mentor, who reveals gradually a new approach.
I found it an excellent, very accessible & entertaining introduction to; theory of constraints, lean thinking and in particular Dev-Ops.

Sensational & Inspiring!

Not just another boring IT book...

The Pheonix Project is an entertaining story, with characters most business employees can relate to and comes packed with a wealth of knowledge that can benefit people in many types of employment.

However, for anyone working in, working with, or managing IT; or running a business that is looking to grow, in today's modern fast paced world. This book is an absolute must read!

Close to reality yet with fantasy

A great story brings IT support problem into one leading company. Which is one of the fantasy that the company survives with those issues and still being a leader in the industry. Business not just IT: Another fantasy is the last 1/3rd story satisfies many IT people’s dream that all CEO should have an IT background.

Regardless, even many “solutions” in the story are IT industry standard procedures in 10 years ago, there are still things can be learned from the story after 10 years since its first releases. So it’s still a great story.

What’s more, the narrator didn’t actually do a high quality job that he could not present the right tone or emotion for different characters.

A guide to a way out for anyone buried in IT

Really enjoyable narration performance, and truly engaging way to get a message across rather than the usual 'do this and that' suggestions.
The initial set up was so true to my everyday reality it was scary. The suggestions, while they work magically in the book, are still very practical and I have already implemented several aspects at my company. I don't have a guru whispering suggestions to me so I'll need to listed to it again and I'm sure I'll be able to get to the next stage.
Thoroughly recommend to anyone in IT, Dev, PM or anywhere in between.
