About this listen
Orphaned by Monsters. Matt must power up to save others from the same fate.
Matt plans to delve the rifts responsible for the monsters that destroyed his city and murdered his parents. But his dreams are crushed when his Tier 1 Talent is rated as detrimental and no guild or group will take him.
Working at a nearby inn, he meets a mysterious and powerful couple. They give him a chance to join the Path of Ascension, an empire-wide race to ascend the Tiers and become living legends.
With their recommendation and a stolen Skill, Matt begins his journey to the peak of power. Maybe then, he can get vengeance he seeks....
Experience the start of an action-packed fantasy adventure that blends everything you love about LitRPG with Xianxia. With five million views on Royal Road, this hit web serial is new and improved and now available.
About the series: This is a mix between LitRPG and Xianxia. It's like a car that looks like a LitRPG with dungeons and skills, but the interior and engine are all Xianxia. It features a magic system and progression system that are logically and internally consistent, as well as realistic fight scenes and a rational MC.

Good Story
WHY ARE SKILLS NARATED AS IF THERE IN PERMANENT CAPS LOCK
I've read so many of these types of books and I can't understand why shout out the skills at the listeners every time they are mentioned I found it took away from the story the way you make them sound is like when you press one of those children/dog buttons being NO or YES

Fun story
I really enjoyed this story, great characters, paced well and created an interesting universe, I'm looking forward to the next book.
Only thing I would change is how the skill names presented as it breaks the flow of the fights when multiple skills are used.

Interesting adventure but small annoyance
Overall this was a good story, but they have unfortunately decided too use pre-recorded announcements whenever a game skill or power is mentioned. This got really darn annoying to the point I almost put the book down.
It’s unfortunate that they chose this as it REALLY detracts from the overall experience, hence three stars.
PS this is the first of an ongoing series.

Good but slow in some places
Not as funny as other books from this author, but still good. I’ve just bought all the books books in the series

surprisingly good
Well worth a listen. Loads of fun and very minimal sillyness. The dialogue is realistic and world well realised.

I enjoy these books, but they're too detail heavy
I bought them all the way through to book 7, and I do enjoy them, but there are whole chapters that read like a technical manual on skills or equipment. I can't help but tune out some of the details, and then I find I've missed where the actual story restarts, and I have to skip back.
I've tried reading them, but the tech manual bits mean I skip those parts.
I'd say the books could be shortened by maybe 30% without losing story quality.
I guess some people like that in their books, but it makes it a bit of a slog at times from my point of view.

absolute hidden gem
I think the hardest part about creating a prog fantasy/litrpg world is balancing it all out to have verisimilitude. this guy does it really well, covers his bases and has great character interactions. very defiance of the fall/irony princey, but better in many ways.

Like a black hole, it sucks you in
A really, really enjoyable book. It starts with Matt, an ordinary orphan on a low tier world, however as he learns to overcome his detrimental rating and turn it into positives, he finds friendship and understanding in unlikely companions, and they help him to become a stronger version of himself! Looking forward to listening to more from this storyline and author!
