Publisher's Summary
It was the universe's most elusive particle, the lynchpin for everything scientists dreamed up to explain how physics works. It had to be found. But projects as big as CERN's Large Hadron Collider don't happen without incredible risks - and occasional skullduggery.
In the definitive account of this landmark event, Sean Carroll reveals the insights, rivalry, and wonder that fuelled the Higgs discovery, and takes us on a riveting and irresistible ride to the very edge of physics today.

An amazingly accessible story of particle physics
Outstanding. Sean Carroll, the best explainer of detailed physics, tackles the most baffling truth we have, quantum mechanics, in a way anyone can understand. He brings in humanity in the form of the scientists who contributed to what we know about sub-atomic particles, centering it around one of the greatest triumphs of experimental physics in modern times - the discovery of the Higgs boson. This book finally put together in a cohesive narrative structure all the things I'd heard or wondered about quantum mechanics, the Higgs, and even supersymmetry, string theory and other theories beyond the Standard Model.
