Critic Reviews

"In the front of all poetry stands the poetry of [ancient Greece], and in its foremost rank stand the epics of Homer." (Andrew Lang, Homer and the Epic)

His words had wings

No idea what that means; but you will hear it 10,000 times. Wow - those Greeks knew how to have a good whinge; and - wow - Homer's world is utterly bereft of morality. Shrewd Odysseus is surely one of the least likable heroes in the canon.

I had read this previously and was expecting something more serious . . . - but this was highly enjoyable and actual comedy gold in some places. Full credit to the narrator and translator for making this so enjoyable. Highly recommended.

Brilliant - brings new life to the Odyssey

This reading, perhaps a little understated (but if so, tastefully) reading has brought new life to the Odyssey for me. Lesser is well known as one of the best readers, but this translation is also masterly, and of course the text of "Homer" is a world classic.
