About this listen

Di Morrissey returns to her roots with a heartfelt tale of secrets, mystery and community in an idyllic Sydney waterway, inspired by her childhood home of Pittwater.

A secluded, peaceful and diverse waterside community faces turmoil as corporate greed threatens to undo generations of heritage and tradition. Tensions mount as the community's way of life is threatened.

Meanwhile, in the city, Dominic Cochrane is at a crossroads. He is made redundant and retreats to the quiet Sydney bay.

Far from being the relaxing break he expected, Dom quickly becomes embroiled in a tragic family mystery as money sharks circle treasured old family homes.

As Dom investigates, secrets are exposed and old wounds reopened. Can he unravel what really happened so many years ago, or have the secrets been swept away on the dark night tide?

Beautiful story but….

unfortunate voice for a timeless writer. How could the publishers get this so wrong and why was he deemed as acceptable his accent in regard to Maggie varied between cockney and Irish with Australian thrown in just to confuse us. I wish that Di Morrissey’s books were more like BBC dramatisations but unabridged.

Intriguing storyline

Loved every chapter- each one building the story but not giving ant clues away. I always struggle with the same narrator for all.characters and this was the same - wish they could have a couple of different voices but understand the economics.

Great story

The story was very interesting the only problem was the narrator seems to read at double speed otherwise everything else was fine. I recommend this book.

Nice story

I found the male voice performance of main character fine, however the breathy attempts at other voices and female characters I found annoying and distracting. Perhaps having another voice perform the female characters might help.

Contemporary story that contains a family mystery

A throughly enjoyable everyday sort of story that had characters we could all identify with. I learnt about all sorts of things as it went down a few rabbit holes and drew to a well tied up conclusion. The setting seemed to be an interesting mix of fact and fiction to the point I felt really transported there. Loved the characters.

Condescending

Considering the story is not told first person, the voices given the the female characters were truly cringy. I expect more from such a high profile author to finish this piece of work with respect to the right listening audience.

Enjoyable fast paced & positive.

Another terrific yarn with well developed characters & fast paced interesting stories woven expertly into an entertaining novel.
Di Morrissey's professional journalist background & TV communicators experience, makes her Australia's best story teller.
Her editor is brilliant & they make a formidable team. The authors style always credits the reader with intelligence & imagination; her research is fascinating & she always opens up new avenues of interest through her individual characters' personalities.
Books by Di Morrissey are always a pleasure to read & always without fail takes me out of melancholia & back into a happy place of optimism for life ahead.
I really appreciate her discretion when it comes to romance by closing the door, she is a real lady.
I enjoyed the male narrator, Conor Gallacher, did a splendid job. He had a lovely timbre to his voice & did all the characters well, his use of accent & tone made it easy to imagine the speakers were different genders without him having to feminise himself.
Thankyou Audible for bringing this recent masterpiece to readers/listeners.
Highly recommended for busy people who are in need of a holiday, this will give you a great escape with a satisfactory cheerful finale.
