About this listen

A couple inherits an apartment with a spine-tingling past in this haunting and propulsive thriller.

Rosie and Chad Lowan are barely making ends meet in New York City when they receive life-changing news: Chad’s late uncle has left them his luxury apartment at the historic Windermere in glamorous Murray Hill. With its prewar elegance and impeccably uniformed doorman, the building is the epitome of old New York charm. One would almost never suspect the dark history lurking behind its perfectly maintained facade.

At first, the building and its eclectic tenants couldn’t feel more welcoming. But as the Lowans settle into their new home, Rosie starts to suspect that there’s more to the Windermere than meets the eye. Why is the doorman ever-present? Why are there cameras everywhere? And why have so many gruesome crimes occurred there throughout the years? When one of the neighbours turns up dead, Rosie must get to the truth about the Windermere before she, too, falls under its dangerous spell.

Eerie tone and story setting

I quite enjoyed listening, I just found the story very predictable. At no single plot twist reveal or revelation was I surprised. I like the overall premise though, a creepy story set in an old apartment building with questionable neighbours and doorman. Also found the supernatural component a bit strange, maybe it would have been stronger without it being so obvious and easily accepted by the narrator.

Echo’s of Rosemary’s Baby

This story about a young couple inheriting , under odd circumstances, moving into a prestigious old building in New York, as echo’s of Rosemary’s Baby about it.

Even the part where the are taken under the wing of their wealthy elderly neighbours, Ella and Charles in 5A,

Things seems to be going well for Writer Rosy & her actor husband, Chad.

Until…
She starts to notice things.

Disturbing things.

Like ,
The apparition of a young fist hair boy in the creepy basement.

The overbearing, always helpful , security conscious doorman/ apartment manager.

It only takes one small incident to make Rosy feel that everyone around her at the Windermere might be trying g to Gaslight her.

Thing just don’t seem right.

Then while researching the building for her next book about the strange deaths in this building, more people closes to her and Chard start turning up dead.

I really enjoyed listening to this book.

Excellently performed.
