About this listen
"Boy, do I have a lot to learn!" Anyone who's ever picked up a musical instrument of any kind - from the first caveman banging rocks to that little kid at the guitar shop - has thought that. I know I did. I'd been trying for years to break in to the music scene, to show everyone my chops, to make my mark. And I was good. But I wasn't great. I knew that there was something wrong.
"Then the teacher showed up. I didn't ask for him. I didn't think I needed him. And all he said he could teach me was 'nothing'.
"What happened next, you may not believe...I sure didn't...but that didn't stop him."The Music Lesson is the inspiring story of a young bass player and the lessons he learns about Life, Music, and the Life of Music. Throughout this audiobook is new, original music written by Victor Wooten and a bonus performance by the original supergroup Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.

Metaphor and reality blended
Valuable lessons to be gleaned here if you can open yourself up to learn the lessons and not stress about if the story is true though parts of it are.

Everything you need to know about music
I’ve read and listened to a lot of books about music and this is far away the book that has the most potential to powerfully impact how someone plays music and sees views their performance career. This book is an absolute musical classic. Great, engaging narration as well.

Enlightening
I’ve never written a review for a book but this one is a must if you’re a musician or producer. It doesn’t matter what instrument you play, the principles and concepts explained in this book has opened up my playing and made me aware of elements in music that I’ve been neglecting.
Now that I know these concepts I’m able to listen out and hear them in other peoples playing. I’m also able to train them.
A lesson that stuck with me is - music isn’t something that you should separate yourself from. It shouldn’t just exist when you gig, practise or create. It should be present within you, your surroundings and in all parts of your life.

Flaky but inspiring
I loved the performances in this book. Few audio books get everything and everyone right, this is one of them. Yes it's a bit on the flaky side, but music is a very abstract and subjective thing, getting a bit flaky helps Wooten get the feelings across. It made me wish I played music for a living. If you don't know anything about music, this might just confuse you. If you do it will still confuse you, but in a more meaningful way.

For the love of music listen to these book
I do not have the words to discribe this book nor would I like to give away to much about it. This is Wooten's gospel to music herself.
I would rate this on the levels of the Zen Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and The War of Art.
Grab this book and teach yourself.

Music is in you
I was originally hesitant to get this audiobook based on the title, however I did. I had just recently bought a Bass Guitar and wasn’t this a purchase that spoke about the Bass Guitar as the instrument the story is about. This is a great find and well worth the money as you get lessons that are so real you won’t believe it!
