Publisher's Summary
A summer house party turns into a thrilling whodunit when Jane Austen's Mr. Wickham—one of literature’s most notorious villains—meets a sudden and suspicious end in this brilliantly imagined mystery featuring Austen’s leading literary characters.
“Had Jane Austen sat down to write a country house murder mystery, this is exactly the book she would have written.”—Alexander McCall Smith
The happily married Mr. Knightley and Emma are throwing a party at their country estate, bringing together distant relatives and new acquaintances—characters beloved by Jane Austen fans. Definitely not invited is Mr. Wickham, whose latest financial scheme has netted him an even broader array of enemies. As tempers flare and secrets are revealed, it’s clear that everyone would be happier if Mr. Wickham got his comeuppance. Yet they’re all shocked when Wickham turns up murdered—except, of course, for the killer hidden in their midst.
Nearly everyone at the house party is a suspect, so it falls to the party’s two youngest guests to solve the mystery: Juliet Tilney, the smart and resourceful daughter of Catherine and Henry, eager for adventure beyond Northanger Abbey; and Jonathan Darcy, the Darcys’ eldest son, whose adherence to propriety makes his father seem almost relaxed. In this tantalizing fusion of Austen and Christie, from New York Times bestselling author Claudia Gray, the unlikely pair must put aside their own poor first impressions and uncover the guilty party—before an innocent person is sentenced to hang.

Fabulous story
Loved this unique and beautiful telling of a story beyond the novels of Jane Austen. A fabulous mystery woven amongst well know and loved characters. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Highly recommended.

Awesome read
I loved this, Claudia Gray and Billie Fulford-Brown did a wonderful job. I'm always a bit worried when an author attempts to write like Jane Austen. But she really captures the language. It read like it could have been written by Jane. I hope Claudia will write more like this, maybe even attempt her unfinished novels.
Also would love if audible would get the rights to Defy the Stars trilogy by this author. Would be instant buys for me.

A delightful expansion on the world of Jane Austen’s own novels
I honestly think Jane Austen would be flattered by this homage to the characters she created.
This new author observes all the particulars of manners & propriety in Austen’s novels and is generally true to Austen’s characters. The writing style is also skilfully managed and mannered to reflect the times.
I love Jane Austen and was really taken with this beautifully executed extension on her work. This was a thoroughly enjoyable story, well told, and a pleasurable and engaging experience, I will certainly be “reading” the next instalment.

the best wrestler, most amusing, Austen spin-off
Such a pleasure to meet so many of Jane Austen's characters together, later, in one book, with such delicate and historically accurate details, realized for our modern world - with Mr Wickham getting his comeuppance at last.

Great book
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was well written and performed. Having a blending of all Jane Austen's books was fun and I loved John D'arcy's quirks.

It’s an excellent follow on story from the original books
I loved this book for its accuracy in the time period it told of. I loved the epilogue of Mary Bennett’s tale as it was a true reflection of her unlike some other attempts I had read.
I love that the next generation of the original characters was also included. Hopefully their stories will follow.
Jane Austen is wonderful at any stage in my life so far but this book was a beautiful compliment to the themes and moral compass she instilled in my life. So a huge thank you for this Ms Claudia Gray.
