About this listen
From Wall Street Journal best-selling author L.J. Shen comes a brand-new romantic mafia stand-alone about the thin line between love and obsession.
“Maybe we were never meant for each other. But that night at the carnival, when you showed me who you were, I figured out who I wanted to be.”
The most important thing I’d ever read was scribbled on the door of a portable restroom, engraved into plastic at a carnival on the outskirts of Boston.
Lust lingers, love stays.
Lust is impatient, love waits.
Lust burns, love warms.
Lust destroys, but love? Love kills.
Maybe it was always my destiny to fall in love with a monster.
When other kids stayed awake at night fearing the pointy-toothed beast hiding in their closet, I longed to see mine.
I wanted to feed it, domesticate it, understand it.
Sam and I were only allowed to love each other in the dark.
Once our story unfolded, and the truth came to light, I was the one to cut the cord.
My name is Aisling Fitzpatrick, and I have a confession to make.
Sam Brennan is not the only monster in this story.

My OH my!
such a great romantic story. even though it has a long playtime, I feel it never really had any dull moments or frustrating moments. Towards the end I felt was very very rushed. I feel it could of focused more on what happened during his recovery and what happened after, for both of them. I'm a sucker for Jacob Morgan, he has a brilliant voice, very versatile and comes to the party, where as the female version of the male voice, was a bit distracting. but very well written and preformed. will listen to this again and again.

Killer monster
Sam was a mafia boss.
He was a killer.
Aisling was Texas- oil royalty.
Both had poor childhood rearing.
Sam was disgustingly cruel and Aisling too accepting of his sadistic use of her.
Sam’s about turn at the end was too much for me to believe, even though Aisling grew a spine and demanded serious changes to his behaviour.

Wow
Just loved this story of two souls making the connection. Then all of life’s hurdles thrown at them. Just such a great love story. I read it twice.
Narration was awesome.

Combustible!
Loved listening ro this book. Both narrators had the characters down. The heat that the two generated was phew HOT. The plot held heaps of interest to follow how the two Monsters were going to get together

Good book but nothing like any other L.J. Shen
The story line was good but not great, the writing was ok. Every other novel I have read from this author has been very well written but not this one. Thinking about it the Kiss Thief was on the same as this one not as good as others.

Disappointing
I struggled with the book because of the performances at first, then the plot was non existent and the characters annoying!
Aisling's narrator attempt on a French accent killed me each time she tried to say 'merde,', the whole thing sounded so wrong, it sounded more Russian than French!. There were a couple of grammatical error too :" Mon chéri
" instead of being "Ma Chérie" for eg..
The constant bickering and banter were really unnecessary and some of the dialogues were repetitive and so cringey.... The author made Aisling weak at first then obviously wanted her to grow but the whole thing felt rushed and dragged on and on and on.... I WILL RETURN THIS BOOK.. Do yourself a favour, don't waste a credit on it

Toxic people behaving toxically
I have enjoyed the odd LJ Shen story but this one had few redeeming qualities. It did not have the dry humour. There were episodes of physical intimacy that were barely consensual. The whole “he treats me terribly and that is okay because I am strong enough to take it and he had bad stuff happen to him as a kid.” Is the tie that binds many a physically abusive relationship in real life. The road to redemption is kinda blergh by the end I was like what ever … LJ Shen has written much better stories.
