About this listen

Even a good woman can be pushed too far...

From bestselling author Tricia Stringer, this beautifully realized multi-generational family story looks at what happens when real-life betrayals and struggling relationships clash with outdated ideas of what a woman should be.

Natalie King's life is full. Some might say too full. With her teaching job, a farm to run, three grown daughters who have not quite got a handle on things, a reserved husband and a demanding mother-in-law, most days she is too busy to think about whether she is happy. But her life has meaning, doesn't it? After all, she is the one person everyone depends upon.

But when an odd gift from her mother-in-law—an old book in the form of stern and outdated advice for young wives—surfaces again, it brings with it memories she thought she had buried deep. Has this insidious little book exerted some kind of hold over her? Could it be that in her attempts to be a loving wife and mother, she no longer knows who she is?

On a day when it seems everyone is taking her for granted, and as the ghost of a past betrayal rises, it becomes clear that even this good mother and model wife can be pushed too far ...

"A delightful, wise and heartwarming novel about second chances that celebrates friendships old and new." Rachael Johns, author.

A lovely, relaxing read!

I feel like I've met the characters and spent time away with them!
A lovely story about the pressures of family and the need to care for yourself.

Touching read

This was a great read. Obviously very well written as I found myself feeling Natalie’s depression and hopelessness at times. Loved the ending. My advice read this book when you’re in a good place in your life.

Wonderful story

I really enjoyed this story!
I found some of the language a bit grating. People were “bid” instead of “asked”; and some of the writing was too predictable - but the story got better as the book progressed so it was well worth the commitment.
I found the reader a bit flat, as though she was a superior overseer of the situation.

A Lovely and Real Story

This was a gorgeous and real narrative about people with real struggles with marriage, relationships and expectations on most women. I will be looking for more Tricia Stringer titles.

3/5 read

For me this book had some good themes but it was a bit slow dragging the strong out. I listened to the last 1/3 at 1.5 speed and was able to finish.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed this story, was nice to have some middle aged couple feature. Really lovely story, I found the narration a little dull at times but it didn’t put me off at all. I would recommend as a stress free, light read.
