About this listen
The Mind Illuminated is a comprehensive, accessible and - above all - effective book on meditation, providing a nuts-and-bolts stage-based system that helps all levels of meditators establish and deepen their practice. Providing step-by-step guidance for every stage of the meditation path, this uniquely comprehensive guide for a Western audience combines the wisdom from the teachings of the Buddha with the latest research in cognitive psychology and neuroscience.
Clear and friendly, this in-depth practice manual builds on the nine-stage model of meditation originally articulated by the ancient Indian sage Asanga, crystallising the entire meditative journey into 10 clearly-defined stages. This manual is an essential listen for beginners and seasoned veterans of meditation alike.

20% Meditation, 80% Brain Science
If your aim is to learn to meditate, this is not the book for you. Look for books that don't have "brain science" in the title. One such book that has helped me profoundly is Mindfulness in Plain English by Bhante Henepola. The title says it all.

I wouldn’t bother
There’s some good nuggets in here but overall it’s too needlessly detailed and complex, deviates too far from what the most accurate historical records of buddhas teachings (the EBTs) say and has way too much of a heavy Abhidhamma influence to be a recommendable meditation manual.
Get “Mindfulness, Bliss and Beyond” by Ajahn Brahm instead.
