Publisher's Summary
When a well-known British TV historian, Marmaduke Godolphin, is found murdered in the canals of Venice during carnival, stabbed by a stiletto blade, the Venetian police are eager to have the case solved and cleared up within a day—murder is bad for tourism!
The police recruit the help of retired archivist, Arnold Clover. Godolphin had hired his services on arriving in Venice to help sort through some historical papers of note. These dusty documents may contain previously unknown information about the assassination of the murderer, Lorenzino de' Medici, 500 years previously.
How coincidental that Godolphin meets his death in the same place as the Medici murderer, Lorenzino, on a cold, dark, bloody night. Can Arnold use his powers of perception to establish a link and solve the murder of Godolphin?

Panarama of Venice l
I liked the character studies. They made the book live and real. Good to hear the Italian with the right voice.

Great story with unexpected ending
A great story that was really well read. Lots of twists. Lived the ending. Probably the best of the murder mystery I have listened to for a long time. Highly recommended

The plot, narrative and narration made Audio book an amazing listen!
This was my first time listening or reading a David Hewson book and what a fantastic place to start! The overall story line was enjoyable and entertaining. Ever time I thought I had it figured out, I found there was more to come. While some authors manage to make you feel that some twists and turns are contrived, this didn't feel like that at all. Having spent some time living in Yorkshire, such as York and Bradford / Leeds, Richard Ingram's slightly refined Yorkshire accent made me like I was back living in York again. I have always been interested in visiting Italy, but was always nervous about visiting Venice and the other bigger cities because of the potential of large crowds, pickpockets and the language barrier. But the storyline has reinforced what I have been told by friends and colleagues, just don't visit Italy or any European country during the peak seasons...

Not even Richard Armitage can save this one.
Boring beyond belief. Haven’t finished it and never will. What’s worse is I wasted my $20 voucher on it and can’t return it.
Even the superb Richard A. can’t motivate me to keep going.
