About this listen
When the body of Thomas Magner’s business partner is found dead in his car on the outskirts of Anstruther, all evidence points to suicide. And Magner himself, a wealthy property developer, is currently under investigation for a series of alleged rapes from thirty years ago.
In total fifteen women are prepared to go to court to testify against Magner but one by one they inexplicably withdraw their complaints until only five remain. With the CPS now reconsidering its case, one of Magner’s accusers is killed in a hit-and-run – and the abandoned car is found to be registered to one T Magner.
DCI Andy Gilchrist is assigned to the hit-and-run case and soon discovers that Magner’s murky past is very much seeping into the present. How did he acquire his wealth? How his first wife die? And why did his business partner commit suicide?
And was Magner a serial rapist in his youth? Or was he something far worse?

'Meaty' Thriller
Gilchrist grows on you. The first novel was good but I still had my reservations. The character was still being developed. As the series has progressed Muir has nailed it and created a character with as much credibility as the Logan McRae's and Rebus's of this Scottish genre. Just when you think there cannot be a more gruesome murder Muir gives you some and these
are truly vile. Gilchrist's team work. They are real and credible and Muir doesn't insist on happy endings. The reading by David Monteith is exceptional, both he and T J Muir are definitely on my list of favourites.

Too long too silly
I really enjoyed this up till the last 2 hours when it got indulgent and stupid. So silly what with violent dogs to caverns and skin art designs. Just an impossible story. Not sure I can read another one of these. They are also male chauvinism to the limit. He needs to move on into the 21 century
