Publisher's Summary

It could be worse. You could be stuck with a literal shoulder demon.

After dying and being reborn into a world that's built like a video game, Jim has found himself stuck in a very old-world style new-player zone for low-level adventurers. Unfortunately, the zone fell out of use centuries ago, and no one told the monsters they were supposed to take it easy on the Noobs. Even worse, the only new player around is Jim.

Jim has been given an opportunity, and he'll do his best to take advantage of it.

One for gamers and simulation theorists.

This sounds remarkably similar to.....

I cant quite put my finger on what it reminds me of.

OOhhh wait, our life on earth.

Are we living in a simulation within a simulation?

The story is centered around a man who dies and goes to an afterlife which is a game, with demons, goblins and wolves etc.

Yes, I did just liken some living entities on earth to demons and goblins.

It explores the question that we are continually trying to Level up, or reach a higher level in life, as we know it, even in an afterlife, and that there is never a perfect or final level.

He must qualify for different levels, you earn points with the use of weapons and rankings, just as you do in a game.

He must prove himself, to reach the next level of life in the computer game, through different quests

Quite funny in parts with a dry wit.

Definitely one for gamers or people interested in the theory that we live in a simulation.

The terminology and references with the levels and stats is best suited for people who appreciate and understand the gaming experience.

it's not bad

it's a good RPG style book but its bit to short. I feel it might be a bit of a money grab.

Fantastic book, that is complimented by an equally talented and entertaining narrator. This is a series you can binge listen to on rinse and repeat

Statsy-stats-stats

Probably better in written format than audiobook. Decent story, though not quite what I was expecting

Enjoyable story, but lots of stats!

Loved the characters and their voices, and loved the world and the story, albeit it was a tad short. Hopefully there'll be more coming soon. But the sheer amount of stats was a bit much. it worked in some areas, but grew to be quite huge in others. Kind of slowed the story down.

Loved!

Just truly awesome, as an adult it’s hard to find time to play D&D. This filled that whole in my heart, he even does all the character sheet!!!!!

this is nonstop RPG action with a good twist of humour, it kept me going to the end and left me keen to look for a sequel . Not for the puritanical though!
