About this listen

Ten years ago he killed my son. Today I married him.

Ten years ago my darling son Jesse was murdered and our perfect family was destroyed. My strong, handsome boy, so full of life, became a memory, a photo I carried with me everywhere.

But today I’m finally close to finding happiness again. My ash-blonde hair has been curled into ringlets. Carefully placed white flowers frame my delicate features. The small, drab chapel has been prettied up with white satin, and there are tiny red hearts scattered on the small table where I will soon sign the register with my new husband.

The man who killed my son.

My friends and family can’t understand it. My neighbours whisper in the street whenever I walk past. How can I love a man like Tom?

They don’t really know me at all....

The most enthralling psychological thriller you’ll listen to this year from the best-selling author K.L. Slater. If you love The Wife Between Us or Gone Girl, you’ll be totally hooked on The Marriage.

really enjoyable and unexpected twists

this was a pleasant surprise, from the outset the story appeared interesting.
a woman married the man that killed her child.
This is first twist, yes that is true, but was revealed in an unexpected way, somewhat creepy way!!!
The story appeared set to play out, but instead it revealed some unexpected curveballs near the end, these added to the sense of " that is some twisted stuff" but thoroughly enjoyable, even the little turn in the last 5 minutes , it was the cherry on top of an enjoyable 8 or so hours, left me smiling.
Slater weaves a great story, and is still an author I will always look for. Not your traditional murder/mystery plot, but defs up there with the best, try it, you may well be pleasantly surprised as I was!!!

Ruined by the ending

Opens with an intriguing premise and as the story unfolds, I felt very hopeful as it appeared to be thoughtful rather than sensationalist. There are certainly a number of very interesting themes here (the power of forgiveness, the impact of grief, the ties that bind, and the fallout from lies) and some of them are handled well.

It managed to feel a bit icky at times, with some details and inclusions that I don't believe were necessary and just served to make it a bit creepy.

However, ultimately this story just unravels at the end. The revelations at the end are not meaningfully explored and the actual ending is absurd and unsatisfying. Very disappointing,

Interesting, but predictable

I quite liked this story & was able to get into it immediately. Unfortunately, halfway through the ending became pretty obvious. Regardless, it was pleasant to listen to!
