About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
A wildly ambitious story of the making of a colossal, star-studded, multimillion-dollar superhero action film, and the humble comic book that inspired it all.
Spanning 80 years of a changing America and culminating in the opening of the film, we meet a colourful cast of characters including a troubled soldier returning from war, a young boy with an artistic gift, an inspired and eccentric director, a pompous film star on the rise, a tireless production assistant and countless film crew members that together create Hollywood magic.
Funny, touching, and wonderfully thought-provoking, The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece offers an insider's take on the momentous efforts it takes to make a film. At once a reflection on America's past and present, on the world of show business and the real world we all live in.
This audiobook features 15 narrators, including Rita Wilson, other character backstories performed by Peter Gerety (Charlie Wilson's War, The Wire), Natalie Morales (Dead to Me, Language Lessons), Ego Nwodim (Saturday Night Live), Nasim Pedrad (Chad, Saturday Night Live), Connor Ratliff (Dead Eyes, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) and Holland Taylor (The Practice, The Morning Show). Additional parts are performed by Frankie Corzo, Hillary Huber, David Lee Huynh, Sean Patrick Hopkins, JD Jackson, January LaVoy, and Oliver Wyman.
Interspersed throughout the book are three comic books featured in the story. This audiobook contains downloadable PDF of the comics from the book and a QR code for access to the original screenplay of Knightshade: The Lathe of Firefall.

Cleverly Done
I bought this book because I love almost anything associated with Tom Hanks. His explanation of how movies are made was cleverly achieved in a novel. It is no wonder they cost so much to be produced. I have to admit that my mind wandered off at times but I still enjoyed it, especially when Tom read his parts. If you’re a movie buff I’m sure you’d enjoy the book.

Prepare to be transported into a world of interesting characters!
Once I started, I could not stop listening to this book! The narration, particularly Tom Hanks’ transports you to another world. So many interesting stories wrapped into one. I was sorry when it came to the end. You have to marvel at the many talents of Tom Hanks!

Fine novel with documentary flavour.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, written with a real novelist's flair, but much of it was not invented I am sure. Tom Hanks has seen such directors, actors, makeup artists, assistants et al, and woven them into a fascinating tapestry for our entertainment. It will not win the Nobel Prize for literature, but has some very amusing and pointed writing, bringing us to sympathize with even the most ridiculous people, eg the egotistical actor who argues the point with his director for hours, holding up the whole production. If a young person feel driven to 'get to Hollywood' in any capacity at all, he or she would be well advised to read or listen to this book. I hope Tom Hanks will write another such novel.

Five stars for innovation
Good job Tom! An interesting concept to show people how a movie makes it from script to completion and the people who make it happen.

In total: a 3/5
No problems with the narration.
Bigger problem was the book. The only thing I loved about this was learning about Robbie and his uncle. Still trying to remember where Tom Hanks was after the first quarter of the book. He introduces the book by retelling his meeting with the fictional director Bill Johnson. But after that? He seems to have disappeared from the whole book. Felt like an empty plot hole. That needed to be addressed.
