Publisher's Summary

Keep your secrets. Tell your lies. The gripping new psychological thriller from the author of the bestselling The One Who Got Away.

An old castle ...

For more than 150 years, a grand house known as Alden Castle has stood proudly in the rolling hills of California's wine country, home to a family weighed down by secrets and debt.

A fresh body ...

When the castle is sold, billionaire developers move in, only to discover one skeleton after another—including a fresh corpse—rotting in the old family cemetery.

An unsolved mystery ...

As three generations of the well-respected Alden-Stowe family come under scrutiny, police unearth a twisted web of rivalries, alliances, deceit, and treachery.

A gold-digger wife, a demented patriarch, a daughter in the grip of first love ... Who has lied? Who will survive? And who, amidst all the horror and betrayal, is the lucky one?

Light and entertaining

When I picked this book up, I was looking for something that would keep the pages turning, but not expect too much from me, and that’s exactly what I got. The storyline is entertaining and it’s written in a way that there are enough hooks to keep the reader engaged,

The perfect book for a busy mind is something simple, but not earth shattering, and that’s exactly what this was.

Bad Narration / ok story

Not Caroline Overington’s best novel but kept me engaged enough. The narration was terrible, would have preferred the narrator just stick to her Australian accent which is so calming or use a native us speaker. The end was pretty shocking but overall the plot was a bit hammy

What a twist!

The ending was so unexpected, my jaw was on the floor and my mouth gaping.
What a great “read”, author Caroline Overington has a devious streak combined with a mischievous mind, has produced a compelling thriller.
I’ll certainly be reading (and enjoying) more of her work!

Awesome story bad narration

You can never go wrong with Caroline Overington, and this story is no exception, but the American accents were truly awful. Maybe an American narrator would've been better for those parts because Jennifer Vuletic has a beautiful Australian accent, her voice is so easy to listen to usually. That aside, the story kept me interested with a twist I didn't see coming. I've given this story 5 stars, but it's probably better read with the eyes, not the ears.

Catherine’s writing & characters are always my favourite

Again I just loved this books as much as I have loved all her books. This one was a twist kind of ending but sad & would of or could of kept listening
