About this listen

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World begins with Edward, a self-assured newspaper reporter who believes that the woman he admires, Gladys, will undoubtedly agree to his marriage proposal. To his utter shock and amazement, Gladys stops "Ned" from proposing and announces that she can't marry him because he does not have the characteristics of her ideal man. In order to gain her hand in marriage, Edward seeks to become someone of merit and value by accompanying the scientist George Challenger on a journey to find proof that prehistoric animals still exist.

Along with a band of accompanying assistants, George and Edward find themselves on a unique plateau that derived from an ancient volcano. Almost immediately, the explorers discover dinosaurs living off the land, and, after several breath taking adventures, they then encounter ape-men and early cavemen fighting one another for survival.

George and Edward help the cavemen defeat the ape-men. In return the cavemen show the adventurers a way off the "lost world": a hidden cave. However, when Edward returns as a war hero, he finds that Gladys had made other plans.
