The Blair Witch Project meets Midsommar in this brilliantly disturbing thriller from Camilla Sten, an electrifying new voice in suspense.
Documentary filmmaker Alice Lindstedt has been obsessed with the vanishing residents of the old mining town, dubbed “The Lost Village”, since she was a little girl. In 1959, her grandmother’s entire family disappeared in this mysterious tragedy, and ever since, the unanswered questions surrounding the only two people who were left - a woman stoned to death in the town center and an abandoned newborn - have plagued her. She’s gathered a small crew of friends in the remote village to make a film about what really happened.
But there will be no turning back.
Not long after they’ve set up camp, mysterious things begin to happen. Equipment is destroyed. People go missing. As doubt breeds fear and their very minds begin to crack, one thing becomes startlingly clear to Alice:
They are not alone.
They’re looking for the truth....
But what if it finds them first?
Come find out.

regretful buy
the story was bland and slow, things aren't explained and frankly I was bored and didn't like the book.
i finished it but so far I've loved everything I've read this year! until this book

Absolutely Loved It!
Binged the whole book over one day, just couldn't put it down! Sten played the past and present together beautifully, and the village itself was so well crafted as to give the whole story a vibe - an atmosphere - that is so very rare. Dawe managed to give all the characters their own tone and speech, and her ability to heighten emotional scenes was perfect.
A brilliant mystery, thriller, and drama. I hope more of Sten's work is translated.

Fantastic work
I predicted a few things in the story but never would have predicted what happened at the end.

Can’t stand the narrator
It’s rare that I am completely turned off by a narrator, but Angela Dawe’s voice grates on me. She has this weird drawl in her intonation where the end of every sentence turns upward, and not in a flattering way. It’s so off putting that I can’t listen to the rest of the ‘teen obsessed.. social media conscious’ ghost story. Oh and … stop telling me you “can’t believe you have arrived at this location” just get on with the story.
Not for me at all.

Perishable as it is boring
Boring predictable uninspired far too many adjectives, uses fifteen words instead of two. Repetitive and I’m frustrated with the time I’ll never get back.

Main character is awful.
Great atmosphere and premise, and had such potential. Unfortunately it was peppered with incredibly unlikeable characters, poor decision making and an unbelievable ending.

Poor representation
Overall, the book was well-written. However, the main character was unlikeable and I didn't appreciate how Christians were represented in the plot. I returned the book for a refund.
I almost turned the book off after the first few minutes, due to the narrator's robotic-like voice. Thankfully, she did improve.
