About this listen
Rush is a Fae Guardian, a wolf-shifter whose enhanced abilities have made him a ruthless protector of Elphyne. His job is to protect the realm from the human enemy, and to ensure the sins of the past never come to pass again, lest magic die forever. But one night of weakness resulted in a curse worse than death - exile. Now he spends his lonely time longing to be part of the living, once again protecting them from monsters…until one mysteriously washes up on the shores of his lake.
Clarke is human. She's beautiful, feisty, and fierce. She's also the only person who can see him, speak to him, and touch him.
If he hands her over to the Order, she’s his ticket to having his curse removed. Unable to resist the opportunity, he tricks her into a bargain of obedience, never once suspecting his world is about to be turned upside down. The more he learns about this human enemy, the more he realizes she’s not the monster he’s been trained to believe she is. In fact, she’s capable of inciting passion he’d never dreamed possible again. But Clarke has a message from the past…sins are already repeating. This time, if they don’t stop the coming evil, it won’t just be magic that dies. It will be everything.
A new style of epic fantasy featuring steamy shifter romance, a dash of time travel, monster hunting, a band of brothers, fated mates, growly fae protectors, and their strong-willed women from our time. If you love your books full of pause-resisting action, romantic tension, and world-building you can get lost in, then this book is for you.

Exciting new series
Clarke was part of destroying the world as we know it. Being frozen in the earth she wakes 2000 yrs later to find the remaining humans who have survived are now the enemy & Fae creatures have taken over the world.
Rush a Fae Guardian broke the laws & has been cursed where no body can see him & he is slowly dying. Only his Well blessed mate can save him. Rush comes upon Clarke being taken prisoner by a group of Fae & finds that she can see & hear him. They strike a bargain, he will save her from capture as long as she will be his voice to resolve some unfinished business.
From the very start I was hooked & binged it. I loved the world building, it was scattered slowly along the story. Lana has created a beautiful post apocalyptic world without the use metals or plastics, with Fae creatures, strong females & an array of villains from both sides.
I loved Clarke & Rush. They are such vulnerable loveable characters & loved seeing their relationship develop. I did find the ending a little rushed, but great start to exciting new series.
I read this initially & was so excited to also listen to the audio version. The narrators Amy Landon & Zachary Johnson did an amazing job bringing Rush & Clarke to life

gradual world building
I've been trying to get to this book for awhile. I'm in 2 minds about it. I enjoy the descriptive world that Lana depicts and the story is cohesive and gains ground, it also gives us romance and steam but about 2 hours from the end the tale slows as the h is pulled in to learn more of her new world. but with this comes a flattening out of angst. After all the world was being threatened, her enemy had shown up but she's side tracked on other stuff ( no spoilers).
then the actual fantasy that I built in my mind was virtually shattered when the h thinks that maybe the centre of it all is scientific. it kinda almost lost me.
The fact that the H withholds heaps of information and is keeping a huge secret just drops
the romances intensity as the H goes off and does his thing ...while the h has to learn her stuff.
There's very little interaction between the 2 at that time in the plot, in my opinion, it gets choppy and i lost my connection emotionally. It's like the main drive behind the book goes to the backburner while we continue on with building the scene. but just in time, we get a snippet to push us to the end and the secrets unfurl. it's still sketchy as new characters turn up and other characters change their mind. reality and fantasy gets jumbled and then it rights itself right at the very end. it was a long time till discovery.
I just wish the last hour of the books flow was right the way through as it was awesome
some loose ends still out there but it is a trilogy after all.
narrator's were brilliant. the intensity in Zachary's voice gave Rush an identity and Amy...her voices for different characters was just perfection. well done
