About this listen

In the near future, where America has become a police state, 100 boys are selected to enter an annual contest where the winner will be awarded whatever he wants for the rest of his life.

The game is simple - maintain a steady walking pace of four miles per hour without stopping. Three warnings and you're out - permanently.

Perfectly unsettling

I adored how the voice actor portrayed the characters, bringing them to life in such an eerie distinct way. King did a great job at keeping the book both lighthearted and soul crushing. 10/10 sucker for these battle royale/last man standing type genres.
Also very unsettling listening to this while in the treadmill working out.

Not the best of King’s work

Love King, didn’t enjoy this, I really wanted to enjoy this just not something I looked forward to listening to.

Long Walk

Good audio quality. I liked this story when I was a kid. It's a good story and stands up well after 40 years. The narrator did a great job and he didn't try any stupid accents. The only annoying thing was that he pronounced “carbine” as “carbeen”, which was mildly annoying.

Mostly Great, but inconclusive ending

Great story, Great narration, ending was a bit dull though.

Apparently I need more words to complete the review.

the first half of the book, it was hard to stay interested. the second half was an intensive ride of emotions.

Enjoyed it but…

On the whole I enjoyed the book. It’s a really interesting premise and goes from absolute horror - to funny - to absolutely gut wrenching. It’s well written (of course) but the ending left me unsatisfied. A lot of the surrounding detail is left for the reader to assume - I would have liked some further detail. The narration was excellent and I couldn’t put it down.
