About this listen

Immerse yourself in an Audible Original production of The Little Mermaid.

A magical retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairy tale, narrated by singer-songwriter Leigh-Anne Pinnock. Produced in Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos, and featuring vocals from anaiis, Kersha Bailey, Sariah Rowe and Nadine Samuels, this is The Little Mermaid like you’ve never heard it before.

Deep beneath the ocean, there is a shimmering palace. Built of coral walls and windows of clearest amber, it is the kingdom of the merpeople. And one of these mermaids you might know well: she is the youngest, and is gifted with the most beautiful voice.

Unhappy with her life as a mermaid, she dreams of living on dry land. One day, on her birthday, she ascends to the surface to find a magnificent three-masted ship drifting in calm waters. There, amongst the passengers, she meets the brown-eyed prince.

To win his affection, the little mermaid sells a piece of herself—and is faced with a monumental choice.

So put on your headphones, close your eyes and join Leigh-Anne Pinnock on a journey to the depths of the ocean.

For younger listeners, parental guidance is advised.

Fantastic reimagining of an old tale for modern times

Whilst I have watched and loved the Disney movie of TLMermaid countless times (mostly as a child but also as an adult) in under an hour this story gave me just as much delight.

I have no idea who the singer/narrator, nor the author. of this new version is - I didn’t even know H.C.Anderson wrote the original story - but the combo worked brilliantly to create a unique and engaging tale with a great soundscape.

I agree with other reviewers that the production could have done with better mixing of sound levels - even just some gentle compression to allow the music to ‘duck under’ the narration when triggered by the voices - would have made it easier to hear in parts, it’s certainly not distracting enough to warrant such harsh reviews (1 star? Seriously!? Maybe buy some better headphones or have your hearing n attitude checked lol)

If you like the tale of the little mermaid, this is a lovely, vivid escape into a modern and darker version, that is absolutely worth the approx 45mins of your time.
Instead of mindlessly scrolling FB or web pages, I highly recommend going on this adventure instead.

A sea tale

The music in the background and the ocean noises really helped with the telling of the tale. Enjoy the reading!
Nice message at the end as well..

AMAZING

This was the best audiobook ever! Amazing narrator! In minute I know it would be my new favourite book. Amazing narrator! The only thing that I would recommend to the writers is that I NEED more! If it were only a little bit longer. But I just love the storyline. Way better than all of the other little mermaid books! I recommend this book to all ages. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

A beautiful short listen!

This audiobook gave me goosebumps. The narration was beautiful and I loved how the story was modernised and had a bit more of a dark edge. I loved the singing, music and sound effects throughout this, made me feel like I was underwater. Great audiobook to just escape and chill out to!

Modern references jarred an otherwise pristine narration

Would have been more but the modern asides about smartphones really pulled me out of the story.

But the production was amazing, and the music was gorgeous and Leigh-Anne did a superb job narrating.

Bad adaption for audiobook

Too much music for an audiobook. Narration has high volume, people’s voices too low. Not good
