About this listen
THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
____________________
A moving new novel from the beloved author of Tuesdays with Morrie and The Five People You Meet in Heaven
When the Nazis invade Salonika, Greece, eleven-year-old Nico Crispi is offered a chance to save his family. He is instructed to convince his fellow Jewish residents to board trains heading towards the east, where they are promised jobs and safety. He dutifully goes to the station platform every day and reassures the passengers that the journey is safe. Only after it is too late does Nico discover that the people he loved would never return.
In The Little Liar, Nico's story is interweaved with other individuals impacted by the occupation: his brother Sebastian, their schoolmate Fanni and the Nazi officer who radically changed their lives. As the decades pass, the consequences of what they endured come to light.
Exploring honesty, survival, revenge and devotion, The Little Liar is a timeless story about the harm we inflict with our deceits, and the power of love to redeem us.

this story about the holocaust stands out above the others. it's told from different perspectives. including Truth who is the narrator of the story.

Kept me interested
I enjoyed this book, excellently written. The narration was ok, it's always good to have the author read his own story, if you were reading your own book you would not change your voice. I just felt some of the voices were a bit odd.

A must listen, so relevant in these current times
Heart breaking, achingly sad, yet uplifting, inspiring and powerful. I studied the rise of the 3rd reich in high school and spent 4 years reading everything available about the Holocaust.
Yet, no books or literature at the time (in NZ) mentioned the nazis capture of jews in Greece. How this major genocide of 50,000 jews there had been omitted is a tragedy.
Then I read everything available about the korean war, the vietnam war and a little about all the middle east wars. Each war showed the butchery and depravity of soldiers towards innocent citizens and how fruitless wars are. So manmy people displaced, lives destroyed, generations of trauma, which seems to have created more hate, especially in the current war between Russia and Ukraine and Israel and Palestine.
All for what? so some brutish men can claim "land and power" which is not there's to take? The humanitarian suffering, the grief, devastation, ruined cities, displaced people. Many women and children raped and butchered, just because "they're there".
Stop war, it achieves nothing, except making billions for the makers of weapons. The holocaust taught us that genocide is horrific, yet it's happening again on tv every night. I feel wretched for the suffering and the starving of the people, who've done nothing wrong, except be born in a future war zone.
Men and their weapons - just stop it, the world has had enough. stop telling lies aand making excuse for killing and maiming innocent citizens, based on hunches and hate. Letting people starve and not recive medical care, while the army get fed and treated as heroes is disgusting. There is no heaven for those soldiers fighting for land that belongs to Palestine,
killing 28,000 Gaza civilians because Hamas killed kidnapped 2000 jews is ENOUGH already. Just stop it.
Even if the torturers win, other countries will fight and take the stolen land back in the future. What an utter waste of time, money and lives. DO BETTER Israel and Russia and CEASE your ridiculous persecution.

Powerful and relevant
A captivating page story with depth facts and gut wrenching love and tragedy. A story to read. A story to listen to. As Mitch Albom says at the end. Never Again must not be an expression but a vow.
