Mordecai has discovered his heritage and must take up the mantle of a lord of the realm, while figuring out what it really means to be a mage of the line of Illeniel.
He is beset on both sides by allies and enemies trying to control or destroy his future. Gods and kings both seek to manipulate him for their own ends, and no matter what he chooses his loved ones will suffer. Will he risk destroying his love with a bond that might be her death, or face the madness that comes to wizards who embrace power without restraint?

The MC's relationship is annoying
The relationship the MC has with Penny is annoying. Multiple times throughout the book I nearly stopped listening. it's a let down but I'll struggle though it.

Similar story line to art of the adept
The mageborn series seems to be very similar to The art of the adept, but not as interesting. Really dislike pennys character and am finding it hard to keep engaged in the book.
This series so far has been a bit of a let down, trying to keep listening hoping it will improve

Not great.
the characters are pretty rediculous. Its honestly a struggle to keep going through it. im left wondering if the author has ever actually met a women. The characters interactions are so pissy and stupid. The main character spends mst of his time trying to sleep with Penny. And penny spends most her time acting like a toxic, hate filled petulent child. Mort is as dumb as a bag of rocks. Its just sad that the author thinks this is how a person would be
