The author and editor, William Frederic Badè, was an American clergyman, historian, and author. He is best known for his work as the editor of The Life and Letters of John Muir, a two-volume set that collects letters written by John Muir during the most exuberant period of his life, from 1868 to 1903. This book was published after Muir's death. Badè also wrote several other books, including The Life of Jesus, The Life of St. Paul, and The Life of Abraham Lincoln. He was born in 1871 and died in 1936.
