About this listen

A taut, fast-paced thriller about the coming high-tech arms race between the United States and China

In the high mountains of Tibet, rumors are spreading. People whisper of an outbreak, of thousands of dead, of bodies pushed into mass graves. It is some strange new disease … a disease, they say, that can kill in minutes.

The Chinese government says the rumors aren’t true, but no one is allowed in or out of Tibet.

At the Pentagon, Admiral James Curtiss is called to an emergency meeting. Satellite images prove that a massive genocide is underway, and an American spy has made a startling discovery. This is no disease. It’s a weapons test. Chinese scientists have developed a way to kill based on a person’s genetic traits. But that is only the tip of the iceberg. The success of their new weapon proves that the Chinese are nearing “Replication”—a revolutionary breakthrough that will tip the global balance of power and change the way wars are waged.

Now the US must scramble to catch up before it is too late. Admiral Curtiss gathers the nation’s top scientists, including a promising young graduate student named Eric Hill who just might hold the missing piece to the replication puzzle. Soon Hill and his colleague Jane Hunter are caught up in a deadly game of sabotage as the two nations strive to be the first to reach the coveted goal. But in their headlong race, they create something unexpected … something the world has never seen and something more powerful than they had ever imagined.

The Last Sword Maker is an exciting globe-trotting thriller with unforgettable characters that depicts a haunting vision of the future of warfare.

FANTASTIC!!

Fascinating exciting and as a warning scenario ..very scary. No matter whose side you are on or who you see as
"the baddies"...... this is a scenario ...a technology that needs to be avoided. Its just too risky. LOVED this book though 10/10!!! Narration...fabulous. Thank you Audible!

weapons and their wielders

Science and the world at war! A story woven together with real knowledge and care. Not a book for children and young teens (violence and hard decisions), but certainly worth the read if you enjoy war stories. Great narration.

Riveting performance, great story

I loved the characters. You saved the little girl. No dogs were killed to establish the evil antagonist... as evil. I appreciated the consideration.

Slow

Great concept but too much detail and not enough plot or characterisation. Get on with it

A great story extremely well read including a strong male voice creating a female and child rendition. Hats off and now straight into the next book.

Great read!

I'll admit I originally listened to this as it was included, the first few chapters were a little slow but I stuck with it and thoroughly enjoyed it! Such a clever story teller, mixing recent history and politics to make a believable storyline. The technology is explained to also be believable. Nanotech is an amazing technology that with a little imagination can create interesting, believable storylines. I have already downloaded the second book in this series which is also included, and I'm sure I'll purchase the third instalment too. This story has opened my eyes to the plight of Tibetans in recent history, making me want to find out more about this. I am so invested in the characters in this story and can't wait to find out what happens next. Finally the narrator was wonderful, perfectly suited for this story, it was easy to distinguish between the characters and he had an infinity for accents. Even the female voices were believable! Awesome listen all round, couldn't put it down!!
