About this listen
In this debut novel and series starter, the last member of a murdered House searches for a missing nobleman, and uncovers clues about his own tortured past.
Rune Saint John, the last child of the fallen Sun Court, is hired to search for Lady Judgment's missing son, Addam, on New Atlantis, the island city where the Atlanteans moved after ordinary humans destroyed their original home.
With his companion and bodyguard, Brand, he questions Addam's relatives and business contacts through the highest ranks of the nobles of New Atlantis. But as they investigate, they uncover more than a missing man: a legendary creature connected to the secret of the massacre of Rune's Court. In looking for Addam, can Rune find the truth behind his family's death and the torments of his past?

Finally a Queer book with strong leads!
Book : I am extremely happy with the characters as the Author made two queer characters extremely strong, independent and powerful. I am kind of tired seeing other queer books where one character is so weak that they have to depend on this other strong one to survive. The Author is extremely responsible and respectful when it comes to assault/ intimate scenes. I am glad those scenes didn't end up sounding unnecessary gory or extremely wild.
I think the story lacks a bit of background information for few characters/events as at certain points it leaves the reader confused and wondering who/what that is. But overall the story flows. a Great read.
Audio: I don't get the massive hate and criticism I saw on reddit, regarding the narrator of this audio. I think he is extremely talented and a very good storytelling- the way he changes his voice for each character makes the story more entertaining and easy to understand.

Wanted to like it more
This book explores some interesting ideas and magic systems, and I’m all for more LGBT characters in fantasy, but unfortunately the writing let’s it down. The dialogue has some cringy moments and the character development felt a bit flat. Id have liked a bit more world building that didn’t rely on clumsy exposition. I felt the author in the text rather than the characters, and it took me out of the world.
Not bad if you’re looking for a fantasy mystery with representation, but I won’t be continuing with the series.
