Publisher's Summary

Suspended from his job with the LAPD, Harry Bosch must face the darkest parts of his past to track down his mother's killer...even if it costs him his life.

Harry Bosch's life is on the edge. His earthquake-damaged home has been condemned. His girlfriend has left him. He's drinking too much. And after attacking his commanding officer, he's even had to turn in his L.A.P.D. detective's badge. Now, suspended indefinitely pending a psychiatric evaluation, he's spending his time investigating an unsolved crime from 1961: the brutal slaying of a prostitute who happened to be his own mother.

Even after three decades, Harry's questions generate heat among L.A.'s top politicos. And as the truth begins to emerge, it becomes more and more apparent that someone wants to keep it buried. Someone very powerful...very cunning...and very deadly.

Edgar Award-winning author Michael Connelly has created a dark, fast-paced suspense thriller that cuts to the core of Harry Bosch's character. Once you start it, there's no turning back.

Impressed? Ace detective Harry Bosch is also on the case in other exciting Michael Connelly crime-fiction novels.

Critic Reviews

"Grabs you and shakes you-and it feels great." (Kirkus Reviews)

"Connelly is at the top of his form in this brilliant mystery. Dick Hill does an outstanding job capturing Bosch's cynicism and anger, confusion and hurt. Hill changes his voice well to portray the other characters, most notably the female police psychiatrist...this is a first-rate production." (AudioFile)

"A powerful book." (Houston Chronicle)

Great story brilliantly read

Would you listen to The Last Coyote: Harry Bosch Series, Book 4 again? Why?

The Harry Bosch series gives a realistic insight into the machinations of a police department - I know I worked much of my career alongside police. This story explores the psychology of the detective and hints at the true complexity and scars of 'the job'. Great read

Audio quality was terrible

Sounded like I was listening to it on cassette on a car from the 70’s while under water!

Harry Bosch getting harder to like

The storyline is good but Harry comes across as a rude arrogant bully in his dealings with most of the other characters. Luckily I’ve read later books and he seems to have mellowed a bit so I will persist in reading the whole series.

Sensitive side

I really enjoyed the sensitive side of harry Bosch that came out in this book. I think that we tend to forget that police officers/ nurses ect are people to and are affected by the things that happen in there lives. This book is a good reminder of that and a wonderful read.
